How to Create a Vision Board and Why You Should Have One

If you have always wanted to create a vision board but you don’t know how or if you’ve never heard of a vision board, you have come to the right place! Vision-boarding is a GAME CHANGER for people who love to set goals and achieve them!

Read on to find out exactly how you can create the best vision board for you to start manifesting your goals and why it is so important to have a vision board!

Why you should have a vision board

If you are a goal setter or someone who wants to start working towards the goals you have, a vision board is the perfect way to get motivated and to start making things happen!

Vision boarding is all about the Law of Attraction which means that we will attract to our life what we focus on, whether that be positive or negative thoughts. By curating a vision board that captures the goals and dreams you have for your future and then taking time to visualize and internalize your goals, you begin to bring them to life.

A vision board is a MUST for any ambitious individual.

The steps for creating a vision board

1. Write down a list of all of your goals

Here comes the brainstorming! The first step to curating the perfect vision board means digging deep and thinking about all of the things you want to achieve. Think short term, middle-term, AND long-term. It’s important to include goals from every time point, so that as you achieve these goals, you can replace the achieved goals with new ones!

Here are some examples from my vision-boarding experience to get your brain working:

  • Get into law school

  • Become an attorney

  • Own a super fancy luxury car like a G-wagon or a Range Rover

  • Buy the house of my dreams

  • Travel to France, Spain, and Italy

2. Head over to pinterest and google images to find beautiful images that you can use to represent your goals or pick up some magazines to cut images out from.

Now is the time to decide how you’ll find your images. Your vision board is ALL about you, so it’s up to you what type of imagery you would like to use, but your options lie in cutting out images from magazines or printing them off the interwebs.

Also, you can also create a virtual vision board if that is more your style! I’ve done this in addition to my real-life vision board, I have created a picture collage of images that represented my visions and saved it as my phone’s lock screen, so I am always reminded of my goals when I pick up my phone!

For a real-life vision board collage, I recommend printing out images that you find online because this way, you can find images that are exactly what you want on your board instead of relying on whatever pops up in the magazines you purchase (also magazines are pretty expensive these days!).

Here are some examples of images that I found online to showcase some of the goals I included earlier:

3. Now it’s time for the extras!

Here is your opportunity to get creative! When making a vision board, you don’t have to restrict yourself to only images that represent a goal. You can also add inspiring quotes, motivational words, or just any images that move you or inspire you. Don’t forget to add in affirmations if those are your thing! Pinterest is a great place to find cute graphics with quotes.

Here are some of the quotes that I included in my vision board:

4. Pick the location and materials of your vision board

An essential step in vision-boarding is putting your vision board in a place that you are going to frequently see. For some, it might be best to hang your vision board on your bedroom wall and for others, it would be perfect in your home office. It doesn’t matter the exact location, but ideally, you should see your vision board at least once every day.

Choosing the materials for your vision board is another great way to showcase your creativity! You could poster paper or a poster board, but the best option is to use a corkboard of some kind. This way, you can use push pins to secure your beautiful vision board collage and then easily change the images as you achieve your goals and accumulate new ones. Amazon, Target, and Michaels are great places to pick up a cork board, as they have an assortment of different styles and colors.

If you are not a fan of the way typical cork boards look, you can take your vision board to the next level by covering your cork board with a decorative fabric! For my vision board, I had an old canvas painting from my childhood bedroom that I didn’t want anymore so I stapled a thin corkboard to the front and covered the canvas in fabric.

5. Create your collage

At this stage, you are ready to actually put your vision board together! Time to put your collaging skills to the test. You can arrange your ‘visions’ any which way you like and you can fill up the board entirely or leave spaces for new images!
