4 Takeaways From My First Semester of Law School

I’m officially over one month into my second semester as a 1L and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on a few things I learned last semester.👇

✨COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY✨
It took me some time in the first semester to realize that there is no such thing as the perfect law student — everyone is on their own path and comparing yourself to others only fuels stress. What works for them might not work for you!

✨TAKING BREAKS IS SO IMPORTANT✨
Learning how to effectively take study breaks has been so important to my learning and in avoiding burnout. So many students think in order to be successful, you have to hit the books 24/7, but figuring out that days of rest are necessary to allow your brain to function best is game changing.

✨TAKE SMALL STEPS EVERY DAY TO IMPROVE✨
Even when things get tough and you are tempted to give up, keep taking steps towards the goal. I always repeat the quote “Everything seems impossible until it's done” in my head to remind myself that if I keep moving forward and progressing, everything WILL get done.

✨GOOD HABITS GO A LONG WAY✨
Law school is hard — there is a heavy workload and a lot to juggle at once. But if you develop strong habits in your academic and personal life, it gets so much easier to handle.

Thanks for taking the time to read this — I hope this can help another law student or a future law student feel more confident this semester!
